What is QRS?
QRS certification is a certificate of excellence issued by the state Department of Health which assures a quick response with proper equipment to provide life-saving techniques and the personnel properly trained to use the equipment and implement life-saving techniques.
When does QRS Respond?
QRS responds when the are any medical emergencies in the Blue Knob V.F.C.'s 1st due responce area. This area includes the Townships of Juniata, Greenfield, and Pavia.
Do the firefighters have any special certifications for QRS?
The firefighters responding on QRS calls carry a minimum of First Responder, or EMT. The First Responders sit through a 41 hour class which covers First aid, oxygen administration and Airway adjuncts.
EMT's go through a 130 hour class that covers classroom lectures, and practical work. Some topics included in the EMT Course are emergency child birth, Respriatory Distress, lifting and moving of patients, Cardiac related problems and assisting with medication administration. The EMT also has the option of running with an ambulance while they are in class to practice their skills under the supervision of a currently certified EMT or Paramedic.
What comes on a QRS Call?
A QRS call normally includes Brush 86-71 or Engine/Rescue 86-31 (with 2-6 members, atleast one of which is an EMT, or First Responder). A chief may also respond if needed.
